Programs for Kindergarten Through Second Grade

Sharp Teeth Hurt! Dog Bite Prevention

  • Students learn how to be safe around dogs. They take the Dog Safety Pledge and compete to win a prize.

What Do You Feel?

  • Do animals have feelings?  Are their feelings like mine?  Students discover that we're not so different after all.

Taking Care of Our Best Friends

  • This two lesson program invites a kid-friendly dog to the classroom to help students understand the basics of animal care.

Programs for Third Through Fifth Grade

Dogs With Jobs

  • This two lesson program introduces students to a live working dog.  Students create a booklet about dogs with jobs as they learn about ways that dogs can serve our community.

Warning: Hurricane Approaching!

  • This program helps students prepare their pets for emergencies by calculating their pet's food and water needs and making a WikiWiki (Evacuation) Pack.

Be An Animal Champion

  • "Nice" and "Not-nice" pictures of animal treatment help students begin to understand appropriate ways to interact with their pets.  Students will celebrate their understanding by creating a bulletin board display on the theme "Be Kind To Animals."

Sharp Teeth Hurt! Dog Bite Prevention

  • This program for slightly older students invites them to play a game connected to an award-winning DVD on safety with animals.  The winner of the game receives a prize.

Programs for Sixth through Eighth Grade

Feeling Hot! Hot! Hot!

  • Students develop their own group "commercial" to summarize hot weather tips for animals and the best commercial wins a prize!

Animal Champions (Anti-Cruelty)

  • By using case studies, middle school students "vote with their feet" in a debate on the various issues of animal cruelty.

Dogs With Jobs

  • This two lesson program invites students to learn about working dogs as they work together to write an illustrated story and "interview" a therapy dog and its handler.

Warning: Hurricane Approaching!

  • This workshop for middle school students is full of important information on disaster preparedness for pets.  Students will learn how to calculate their pet's basic needs and what things to include in an evacuation pack, as well as create posters with tips on preparing before, during and after a major hurricane.

It's Raining Cats and Dogs

  • With the help of a KWL (Know, Want to Know, Learned Today) Chart and a structured debate, students identify their opinions and learn new information about the crisis in pet overpopulation.

Careers in the World of Animals

  • Students learn about and create "want ads" for careers that involve animals.  The group with the best ad gets a prize!
